kick scooters for adults Buyer’s Guide

If you keep the before points in mind, you can easily go out to the market and buy kick scooters for adults, right? No!

Razor A5

Newbies and those on a shoe-string budget. The Razor is the classic first-time scooter.

The Micro is probably the speediest kick scooter I have ridden, and one of the lightest too. It can be found in an elegant white and blue paint job, or a striking black one with orange highlights. For the non-thrill seekers out there, this might be a bit too speedy, though.

Speed demons and people looking for the lightest, most compact package.

Emicro One

The Emicro One is, according to the company, the “world’s most lightweight and compact electric scooter” with a weight of just 7.5kg, making it an ideal mode of transport for the morning commute (to the train station, anyway!).

It also features a motion control sensor unique to the Emicro One, which allows rider to start and control their speed by body movement. The company claims that the motion control technology also reduces the battery consumption, and allows the scooter to be used ‘cable free’.

In terms of battery life, it features a fast charging battery that charges from flat to full in only an hour, with each charge providing you with 12km of scooting enjoyment.

Razor E100

The Razor E100 is your basic entry level electric scooter for kids. Boasting a steel frame, the E100 can reach speeds of up to 10mph thanks to the electric motor, though it’s worth noting that riders will have to be travelling at 3mph before trying to use the electric motor, as it’s not powerful enough to move the scooter when stationary.

Riders will get around 40 minutes of continuous use before it requires a charge, although it’s not clear just how long the charging process will take.

It boasts twist-grip acceleration control for finer control over speed (opposed to a button, which others feature) and features an 8in front tyre for extra comfort when riding. It’s worth noting that the maximum weight is only 54kg though, so this scooter is only intended for children.

Razor E300

Razor’s E300 electric scooter is a decent mid-range scooter, and is suitable for both kids and teenagers (possibly even big kids too, but we’ll let you decide that!). The E300 boasts a speed improvement over the E100, reaching speeds of up to 15mph while matching the 40 minutes of constant use that the E100 offers.

The E300 also features a ‘super size’ deck and frame, meaning the rider can stand firmly with both feet. It also features a twist throttle for finer control over speed, and a retractable kickstand so you don’t have to leave your scooter on its side when not in use.

The wider 25.4cm tyres should provide a comfortable and smooth ride, and the maximum weight limit for the E300 is 100kg.

Zinc Volt 120

The Zinc Volt 120 is another great electric scooter. It boasts top speeds of 12mph, and although we’re not quite sure how long/far you’ll get from a single charge, the scooter features a ‘fast’ recharge time.

That being said, the scooter requires a 12-hour initial charge when first purchased.

Like others in our roundup, the Zinc Volt 120 offers durable tyres ideal for use on uneven, bumpy surfaces.

Unlike other electric scooters, the Zinc Volt 120 offers push and go start-up. This means that you should be able to push off to gather a bit of speed, then let the electric motor do the rest of the work.

It has a slightly lower maximum weight than the Razor E300, at 70kg, meaning this is marketed towards children and young teenagers.

This is one of the most popular electric scooters in the whole world. This environment-friendly scooter is suitable for short distance communication. This is designed for the teen and adults. The super-quiet chain driven motor can run continuously for 40 minutes without needing another recharge. The front and rear tires are wider and they allow you to run at up to 1miles per hour speed. The wide tires also provide strong grips to the surface and it reduces the chances of slipping or skidding. This electric scooter comes with a 12V sealed acid batteries. It features a hand-operated back brake and extra-large deck for enhanced stability.

This electric scooter can carry a rider of up to 220 pounds. This is particularly suitable for teenagers. If you are adult weighing below this limit, you can also ride very smoothly. The handlebar mechanism allows you to fold the handle so that you can carry and store it easily. This is a really great electric scooter for short distance touring, such as for going schools, for visiting neighbors. This versatile electric scooter offers you the best value for the price.

If you ask for the drawbacks, there are not many major issues. One customer has complained that if the power is left on, the battery continues to drain. Another issue is the battery compartment is almost ground-touching. So it is sometimes difficult to ride. Other than these, there are not any issues. The second problem can be easily solved with some extra physical effort. Overall the construction and the performance are great. This is why Razor E300 is one of the best scooters for adults and teenagers.

Helmet

Make sure you look for one that your child will like to wear, or you could be faced with an uphill battle to get them to keep it on.

Close Toe Shoes

While scooter riding is going to be primarily a warm weather sport, make sure you don’t let your little ones ride with sandals or flip flops. I can only imagine how many toenails would be pulled off if I let my kids ride without sneakers.

Even if the scooter has a brake, the natural inclination of most small kids is to put their foot down to stop. Open toed shoes would be the huge problem is that department.

Height Range

Some scooters can get pretty expensive, so it makes sense to look for one with an adjustable height range that will grow with your child. Just be sure that when they are riding the handlebars are right at their belly so they can ride comfortably.

Razor A Kick Scooter

The Good: If I close my eyes and envision a scooter, odds are I’ll see a Razor. When I was a kid, they seemed to just pop up overnight as the most popular mode of transportation, and with good reason. They’re lightweight, which makes them easy to ride for most kids.

Since these scooters are so lightweight and easy to handle, they are great for tricks or really fast riding. Razor scooters can be folded in half, too, making them easy to take in the car on vacation or to the park. : While they brew up all sorts of nostalgia for me, that doesn’t mean the classic design is without its faults. The deck is really skinny, making it harder for small children to stay on while riding. They are also a bit flimsy, and won’t last more than one or two summers without breaking down to the point that they can’t be used anymore.

The Long and Short of It: The classic scooter, the Razor, which can be reviewed here, is lightweight and easy to transport. However, they are also a bit on the flimsy side, which will limit their usefulness.

Globber Wheel Kick Scooter

The Good: If you are looking for a high-quality scooter for a younger rider (2-years old), then look no further. The Globber scooter is great for beginners since it has a cool locking mechanism to keep the scooter going in a straight line while they learn to balance. Once they have the hang of that skill, you can disengage the mechanism to let them learn to steer.

This scooter also has an extra-long brake pad. This will help your little one to get the hang of breaking with ease, instead of forcing them to stand uncomfortably when they need to slow the scooter down.

The Bad: Though the scooter has a really high weight limit (1lbs.), it is not made for taller children. Therefore, you will only get one or two seasons of use out of it before your little one outgrows it.

The Long and Short of It: A durable trainer scooter for younger riders, the Globber has a high weight limit. Your child will, however, probably outgrow it because of their height after only a few years of use.

Radio Flyer My 1st Scooter

The Good: This is another good option for a trainer scooter, especially if you are unsure whether or not your child will like riding a scooter. It is relatively cheap and made with extra light materials to make it easier for younger riders to handle. The foot pad is extra wide, and the steering is very easy, thanks to the two front wheels.

The Bad: Unfortunately, due to the lighter materials used in its construction, this scooter will be very easy to break. Its weight limit, which is only 50 lbs., makes this scooter only ideal for the smallest of users.

And The Winner Is…

Phew! I told you there was a lot to consider when you are looking for a great scooter. But we did it! Go us! Now you can go out there and confidently buy the scooter of your kid’s dreams. Just make sure that they wear that safety gear.

The E200 from Razor is a great little scooter and basically where the adult range begins. Its biggest problem is basically the E300, which is better or the same on every count and priced far too closely for comfort. I’m not even going into too much detail here – if you’re in the market for a scooter like this, check out the current price for the E300. If the price difference is less than fifty bucks get the E300. Especially if you weigh more than the 150 pounds the E200 supports.

The Razor E300S

I don’t know what to tell you, it’s an E300 with a seat stuck onto it. If you like the E300 but would rather sit down, then buy this scooter instead. Interestingly, the quoted charge time for the E300S is four hours shorter than the E300 while the run time is five minutes longer, which points to a better battery system. Still, the seat really is the deciding factor. They are both priced pretty much the same as well.

The Razor RX200

Unlike the E200, there’s actually a point to the existence of the RX200. With a maximum weight capacity of 15pounds the RX200 just barely ekes into the adult scooter category. The big difference comes from the numerous modifications Razor has made to the E200, which makes the RX200 ready for offroad riding right out of the box.

Obviously this includes offroad tires, but most importantly the gearing ratio has been changed to deliver more torque rather than simply speed. Otherwise, the RX200 looks very much the same as the E200. It takes 1hours to charge the battery, it tops out at 1miles per hour, and is otherwise at the entry level. It makes a lot of sense as an impulse buy for having some light fun in the dirt, just keep that very low weight limit in mind.

The Uberscoot 1000W

The Uberscoot 1000W matches the BLACKSUP almost beat for beat. It’s slightly cheaper but provides just about the same features and performance figures. One thing that’s a glaring difference between the two is that the Uberscoot doesn’t seem to have a clear upgrade path to change it according to your needs. It may very well be that these kits are available, but they aren’t being advertised as clearly.

The EcoReco M5

The EcoReco Mcontinues the Fuzion V-1000’s tradition of supremely well-made kick-style scooters that are just too expensive. Dropping an amount well south of a grand on a scooter like this just seems insane.

This is a bit like those gourmet hamburgers aimed at millionaires. It’s still just a hamburger, but every ingredient is rare or endangered. The Mlooks like it was developed for military use. Mean looking, black, and heavy. It’s a good looking, genuinely well-designed machine that you would have to be insane to buy unless your name is Richie Rich.

Maintenance of Electric Scooter

If you intend to buy the best electric scooter for commuting or you already have one, you need to ensure that you keep it in its best condition so that it can last longer and serve you better. Here are great tips on how to maintain your precious scooter.

Keep records: Before you engage in any maintenance procedure, you should consider taking record of your scooter. Records will help you to reconnect any part that you disconnect when carrying maintenance. The best way to take records is by taking pictures to view clearly how every part fixed before you disconnect it.

Inflate tires: Always ensure that all tires are well inflated before going out for a ride. You can check whether your tires have enough pressure by pressing them with your finger. If your finger sinks easily into the tires after pressing them, you have to add more pressure. You can also use a pressure gauge to check whether your tires need more pressure.

Battery maintenance: Always ensure that your batteries are well charged using an original charger that can be acquired from the manufacturer or an authorized dealer. Some scooters have a self-recharging battery, but up to a certain limit, therefore, you need to top up the charge. If your battery starts failing to hold a charge for long, you need to replace it.

Check chain tension: Always ensure that your scooter has the right chain tension. Riding your scooter with a loose belt will make it slip from the teeth and wear out. If you have to replace the belt, ensure that you have the right specifications and you have placed it in the right settings.

Regular oiling: Lubrication is a requirement for any machine that has moving parts including electric scooters. You should ensure that you clean and oil all moving parts of your scooter at least once per week.

Additional Things I Liked

So let’s get into the details of this top of the line electric Razor scooter. The entire layout of this scooter was done for both comfort and safety. Speed control is both safe and easy with the hand-operated rear brake and twist-grip accelerator. Your hands never have to leave the handle bar. And the larger deck space and larger tires give you an incredible amount of grip and traction.

Let’s not forget performance. Although rated by the manufacturer for speeds up 1miles per hour, many users have measured speeds of close to 20 MPH. It depends a lot on the levelness of the terrain and the weight of the rider.

A Tight Package

Another great benefit is how compact this scooter is. In addition to being very light weight, it also folding handlebar mechanism thingamajig that makes it really convenient for transport or tight storage. This thing is so small you can store it just about anywhere, and not even notice the loss of space.

But just because it’s small don’t think it’s not a blast to ride. The performance packed into this little thing will astound you. And it gives you nearly 4minutes of uninterrupted riding per charge. That’s thanks to two 1volt sealed lead acid batteries that come included. They also throw in a battery charger and some tools.

E200 Strength

The body of the scooter is made from alloy and if you are worried about not having enough space to store it in your home. Don’t fret! This is because the scooter has an instant folding ability which should make storage as easy as pie. Now, one of the foremost problems that people have when it comes to scooters would be the amount of noise that they make. Perhaps you’re already familiar with it, that rumbling, annoying sound that noisy scooters make. Well, you can lay that problem to rest because the Razor E200 electric scooter is actually a “No Noise” scooter. You and your neighbors can relax in piece even whilst your children are riding the scooter up and down your street.

Speed

Let’s talk speed. The Razor E200 is pretty moderate in terms of speed. In fact, there are adults who use it to get around their neighborhood as an alternative to using bikes. Obviously, this isn’t meant for the main road and as such, you should keep your speed expectations at a minimum. You can control how fast you’re going through a twist grip throttle accelerator which is very easy to maneuver. There are no seats on the E200 thus riders have to stand up. However, because of its full sized deck and frame, doing so is actually very comfortable. It has inch pneumatic tires which ensure a smooth ride.

Power

Picking gifts for your kids and young adults is always very challenging. But if there’s one thing that’s for certain, everyone in your homes would absolutely enjoy having the Razor E200 around. You can all spend your afternoons zipping around the neighborhood in this truly fun and stylish ride.

Razor E100 Electric Scooter

One plus is the easy, twist-grip throttle on the E100, E200 and E300 for reliable speed control in any conditions. All models still use sealed lead-acid battery pack technology, but having said that it does deliver power for cruising speeds between ten and fifteen miles per hour. If your life takes place in a tight-knit community, say goodbye to gassing up a car. Your Razor electric scooter will take you wherever you need to be. Or if you simply want an electric scooter for some trips, and to have fun riding, these inexpensive models provide the perfect option.

Parents who want to give their children a reliable mode of transportation to and from school might look to the Razor E100 electric scooter as the best option. The E100 differs from the E200 and E300 series in several ways. It is specifically designed for younger children, ages to 1Its maximum load capacity of 120lbs. is just right for children and the safety feature of a kick-start motor ensures fewer riding accidents. Unlike the E200 and E300 series, the E100 needs a three mph kick motion to engage its motor. Once the motor engages, the scooter is operable by its twist-throttle handle.

For older riders the Razor E200 electric scooter may be a better option. It can achieve top speeds of 1mph, mph greater than the 100 series, and needs no kick start to engage the motor. More importantly, the E200 has a frame designed to carry riders weighing up to 220 lbs., which means the average adult can easily use this scooter for all his or her needs.

Riders who want the most speed and the strongest scooter frame might still be drawn beyond the E200 to the E300. With the Razor E300 electric scooter you’ll be cruising town at top speeds of 1mph on enlarged tires. Unlike the 100 and 200 series, which have 8” tires, the Razor E300 has upgraded 10” tires to allow riders to cruise over rougher surfaces with the same smooth drive. The E300 still has a rider maximum weight of 220 lbs., but the super sized rider deck provides a greater comfort for bigger and taller riders.

Regardless of which scooter you choose to purchase, you’ll get the Razor experience. All three models have the easy folding handlebar mechanism for quick, compact storage. Enjoy the same, simple wall charging with standard outlet systems, and make daily riding as easy as plugging the scooter in every night before bed.

Razor Jr. Lil’ Kick Scooter

Razor is a reputable brand in the scooter market. As for Jr. Lil’ Kick, it features a blue model for boys and a pink one for girls. It has a deck and grips that are slip-resistant. The T-bar is padded, and the frame is made of welded steel to secure sturdiness.

The broad base and three wheels provide excellent stability, even better than models with just a single roller in the back. However, that also comes with a downside.

The manufacturer put two wheels in the back, which makes the model unsuitable for toddlers because they might trip.

Razor Jr. Folding Kiddie Kick Scooter

Jr. Folding Kiddie Kick has some similarities with the previous Razor model we reviewed. It also comes in two different colors (blue for boys and pink for girls), and it features two wheels in the back and one in the front.

That secures superb balance, but also a bit less smooth riding. On the plus side, there is less chance that the youngster will fall and injure them.

Children that are at least three years old can ride Razor Jr. Folding Kiddie Kick. The weight capacity is 4pounds, but the model weighs less than seven pounds itself.

Head Protection

Primary safety precaution is that the scooter rider needs to wear a helmet. That applies to all ages, and it is even a law in some states. Helmets are crucial for protecting your child from head injuries. Always make sure that the headgear is strapped, but not too tight on the chin. If you notice that the helmet is getting too small for your kid, buy a new one.

Riding in Groups Is a Good Thing

Although you might think otherwise, you shouldn’t hesitate to let your youngster scoot with his friends. Of course, as long as you are sure that they all know how to handle a scooter properly. The truth is that groups are more noticeable, especially for car drivers. Aside from that, there is a chance that at least one of the kids will see the obstacle and notify the other not to bump into it.

Which are the top electric scooters available on the market today? Here is a list of some that are successful and among consumer favorites, in different categories.

UberScoot 1000w – Fastest Electric Scooter on Our List

If you’re looking for an all-around leader, this is your choice. The UberScoot 1000w is a great challenge for competitors. With a maximum speed of about 25mph and low charge time of 4-hours, it has an impressive range of miles per charge and a load capacity of 260 pounds. Powered by a 1000 watt, 36V motor, this is suited for kids of 1years and above.

The Razor E300 electric scooter sports a pretty basic build that requires some assembly. The main deck and the steering column come detached, but it’s enough to connect them with a simple hex wrench. The handlebar is pretty ergonomic, and the great thing is that it folds easily which makes for convenient storage. Cable wires for the brake and accelerator hang freely from the handlebars and connect to the motor underneath the deck which can be a problem when they become lose over time.

The frame is built using solid tubular steel which gives the scooter a durable and dependable feel. The deck is broad enough to incorporate both children and adults and contains a non-slip material which provides extra friction during the ride. The E300 does not have any real suspension, but the two 10-inch pneumatic tires provide good support and shock absorption even over small bumps and slightly rugged terrain. As for maximum rider weight, the E300 can comfortably support up to 220 lbs in weight which is perfect for most adult riders.

One of the greatest features of the Glion Dolly electric scooter apart from its ultra portability is its 36v Sony Lithium Ion battery which is quick to charge taking only 3.hours to achieve a full charge and hours to achieve a 75% charge. The Dolly delivers an easy 1miles of range on a full charge and comes with a portable charger that is small enough to carry on you in case you need to charge on the go.

Now, while this top folding electric scooter has no real suspension built into it, its wide 8-inch honeycomb pneumatic tires provide good support over tiny cracks, small holes and some rugged unevenness on the road. However, the scooter does tend to clatter while riding over rough patches, but for the most part remains pretty stable. The electric brake inside the rear motor (250W, 600W peak power) works quite well and brings the scooter to an almost instantaneous halt when you engage it (via the throttle on the left handle bar), although having an additional front break would’ve sealed the deal for us.

The Dolly is quick but not as quick as advertised. During our test runs, we were able to clock a maximum speed of 14.mph, but we’ve ridden faster scooters. The other issue we faced was regarding the responsiveness of the throttle which requires the rider to grip on tight to maintain their speed. This can be a wee bit annoying on longer commutes but works just fine for shorter 1-mile commutes to and from public transport or the office. The Dolly has a bright headlight in front that works and a rear tail light reflector, so you can comfortably ride at night, however, we’d suggest avoiding streets without lighting.

Lightweight at only 2lbs

The Mperforms remarkably well and does so in relative silence. It is powered by a 250-watt motor gearless, direct drive motor that is capable of 750W peak power output, which is more than sufficient for a compact personal mobility device. It includes a 36v Lithium-ion battery which weighs roughly pounds and takes approximately 4.hours to charge. Although the Mcomes ready-to-go with a 50% charge, we recommend charging it fully before you venture off on your first commute to get the benefit of the full 10+ mile range.

One of the cool things we like about the Mis that it takes a little pushing to power it on. This is a built-in safety feature which ensures that the scooter doesn’t power on with an accidental or unintended push of the power button. As for the layout on the handle bar, things seem pretty simple and straightforward. The right bar has a variable speed throttle for acceleration and the left bar has a lever which engages a drum/band brake connected to the rear wheel. The variable throttle is attached to the display computer which shows the speed, trip distance, battery level, and the number of charge cycles exhausted. The only issue we found with the display was its downward angle which makes it hard to read while riding, but with some adjustment you can get it to face up or you can simply stop when you wish to check the battery level.

The actual ride itself is very comfortable and smooth, not to mention, incredibly as we’ve mentioned above. The Maccelerates well, but during changing speed levels with the variable throttle you will experience some jerks before the scooter picks up on the higher/lower speed. However, once it begins to coast, the ride is remarkably smooth. During our test rides, we took the Mover patches of bumps and cracks as well as over grassy patches, but it was able to maintain speed and deliver good stability owing to its dual suspension. Braking is efficient as well, but in our opinion having a brake up front would provide even greater assurance in emergencies. At any rate, as a last mile solution, the Mis the closest we’ve come to riding a near perfect e-scooter owing to its high-quality performance and versatile features..

Fold down foot pegs for a pillion rider

The Super Turbo 1000W Elite scooter is the motor cross race horse among electric scooters. It has large 4/1inch all terrain racing tires that give it a mean look and eye-catching suspension coils in the front and back. The front suspension features an attractive chrome mono spring suspension, and the rear motor and wheel are fastened to the body using dual shock springs and chrome bolts that add to the overall sharp look of the scooter. Also, it has disc brakes in the front as well as in the back which is a first among all the electric scooters we’ve reviewed and tested.

This Super Turbo 1000W Elite scooter comes fully assembled for the most part except for the seat which has to be connected by the rider. The seat fits snugly into a port towards the back end of the deck and is secured using a bolt. The battery which is consists of 3, 12v deep cell batteries and weighs approximately 30 lbs is housed inside the deck of the scooter. To access it, one has to remove the seat and open up the deck which can take some doing. The overall weight of the scooter including the battery is nearly 8pounds. And, although this 1000W Elite scooter can fold down, it’s just too heavy to be carried onto public transportation. However, the good thing is that it is durable and stable enough to support even the super heavy weight individual with a weight bearing capacity up to 300 lbs.

Performance

This RX200 is powered by a 200-watt chain driven motor which has been engineered with a new gear ratio to deliver higher torque for the off-road terrain. Additionally, the rear hub is designed to include a sprocket drive train with the free wheel which allows the scooter to operate freely like a bicycle.

Similar to the E200, the RX has a variable speed throttle allowing riders to regulate their speed as they navigate the off-road terrain. Also, similar to the E200 is the two 12v lead acid battery system that is capable of delivering up to 300 charges. Owing to its lead acid nature, the battery can take up to 1hrs to charge and provides roughly 40 minutes of run time.

Amazingly the RX200 is capable of drifting on the dirt. All the components and upgrades on this scooter come together beautifully to deliver top class off-road maneuverability that is unmatched in the price range.

The 80 watt motor and 12v rechargeable battery that power this electric scooter for kids deliver up to mph speeds and a total run time up to 50 minutes. Also, the battery is easily rechargeable and only takes a few hours to complete charging.

The thumb level throttle on the high rise bars makes steering this scooter convenient and fun. It is specifically meant for kids who are not perfect in riding. Also, the deck provides extra stability due to the in-traction molding which further enhances the comfort of the ride. Before the electronic action takes over, the rider has to push using his or her feet much like on a kick scooter, but once the power kicks in, riding is effortless and extremely enjoyable.

Characteristics of the Scooter Frame

Scooters can be made from many different materials but the sturdiest and most common is aluminum.  A rigid, sturdy frame is going to require less energy to power it which makes your kicks much more efficient.  The more rigid the frame is the less it will rattle around as well.  If you are interested in doing a lot of tricks, you may prefer a looser frame that has more give.

Characteristics of the Scooter Wheels

There are also many considerations that you will make concerning the wheels of your scooter.  Wheels are very important and will affect the way the scooter rolls.  We’ve listed all these characteristics below.

Wheel Diameter

Regular wheels on a scooter are usually between 100-110mm.  These are the standard wheel size that most standard scooters are equipped with.  This size wheel is good for riding on a regular scooter and performing different tricks.

Small Wheel Diameter – Smaller wheels are well suited for the rider that wants to perform tricks. This is due to the enhanced maneuverability.

Wheel Durometer – This measurement has to do with the softness or hardness of the scooter wheels.  If there is a durometer measurement for the scooter you are considering, you will most often see a rating that is between 74A and 88A.  The lower the number is the softer the wheel will be.  Softer wheels are better for shock absorption but they will wear out faster as well.

Folding Ability – Scooters that have the ability to fold are great for many reasons. They are easy to travel with, easier to carry from place to place and easier to store as well.  If you have children you are familiar with the fact that they get tired when out and about and may not want to ride or carry their scooter anymore.  Some scooters even have long straps that make carrying even more convenient. Avoid folding scooters if you or your child wants to do stunts.

In India

The distinction between a scooter for adults and a scooter for kids is vital. This can be easily identified by using the product dimensions.

Obviously smaller people can get away with a smaller scooter (or even a child size) while taller people will probably need to look at the larger sizes.

The weight is also important as this will affect performance of the scooter and ease of transportation when you are not using it. As a general rule of thumb, the lighter the better.

Battery

This is probably most important technical consideration for most people. Electric scooters are battery powered and therefore need to be charged at regular intervals.

Before purchase be sure to identify both the charge time and running time of the scooter and assess these factors in relation to your personal usage needs.

Also keep in mind that in many of these products a variety batteries are available for usage. This can greatly affect the performance of the scooter.

If you are interested in learning more about the types of battery available, go to Electric Scooter Parts, a really helpful resource for maintaining an electric scooter.

Then, you can carry into the office and keep in a small space or cabinet until you close for the day. This secures your scooter perfectly.

If the distance to your office is quite much, you can drive the scooter to the bus stop and fold it up. Foldable electric scooters are legal to carry on bus because they don’t have combustible liquids.

Electric Scooters Vs Gas Scooters

Electric scooters run on batteries and require electric power to recharge the batteries. The batteries help the motor to rotate and push the scooter forward. The gas scooter on the other hand is powered with a combination of gasoline and engine oil.

Electric scooters are more convenient and easy to ride. They feel lighter to handle. Gas scooters on the other hand are heavier. They have better range and higher speed.

Although you may need to check with your local law, most of the electric scooters don’t require a license to drive. A gas scooter requires you to have a license before you can cruise around.

Electric scooters are cool and less noisy, while the gas scooters are louder. Gas scooter uses engines that get hot in the long run.

Although the gas scooters could be a little faster, it is advisable to buy an electric scooters because they are easier and cheaper to maintain. You don’t need to buy gas every time. All you have to do is to recharge the batteries.

Electric kick scooters are largely popular among kids and young adults. They run at speeds between 10-12mph on average..

Considering the fact that electric kick scooters run at a low speed, they are very safe to use.

Electric bicycles

Electric bicycles look just like a normal pedal bicycle, but with a battery, motor and a controller.

They are best for mountain riders. Electric bicycles are propelled by the motor. They can also be propelled with the pedal to make the scooter move faster. They can gain speed between 10mph and 2mph.

Electric wheel chairs

History of Electric Scooters

Despite the fact that electric scooters are just becoming more relevant today, they are not a new concept. The history of electric scooters could be well traced back to about a century ago.

Ajax Motor Vehicle produced the first ever electric scooter in the early 1900’s. The company was located in New York City. Ransomes created some electric cycles with a French corporation in 1920 after which the Application Electro Mecaniques created the Electrocyclette in 192Electric scooter produced then, had wheels in the front and a single in the back area.

There was a huge shortage of gas during the World War period. Hence, most people tried to fix the situation by sorting for a substitute. Thus, there was an increase in the production of electric scooter and a corresponding increase in demand for travel purposes.

The increase in the production of electric scooters during the world war was fuelled by the effort of an inventor called Earle Williams. He transformed fuel operated cycles into electric cycles. A company named Marketeer recreated Earle Williams designs. There after some European firms like Socovel started developing their own versions by creating 400 vehicles that ran on a battery.

Other advances and upgrades started evolving in the 60’s and the 70’s. The Union Carbide company came up with the alkali fuel cell that was planned to be used in the electric motor.

There have been several improvements since then. Today, electric scooters are preferred by many as a personal transport vehicle.

Electric Scooters for Kids

The electric scooter can be one of the coolest gifts you ever buy your child and they provide them with a little more freedom and independence. But it’s important to choose a model based on your child’s age and size in order to ensure that they remain safe and can operate a scooter safely and easily.

These models are often available in a variety of styles and colors, allowing you to truly customize a model based on your child’s preferences.

Aside from finding a scooter that’s safe you’ll want to look for one that has an extensive warranty. As you probably already know, children can be rough with their bikes and scooters, but electric models feature certain components that can be somewhat fragile if not properly care for.

A scooter’s top speed is determined by battery and motor size. If you’re purchasing a model for a child, you’ll need a scooter that features a lower max speed in order to ensure they can maintain control of the vehicle the entire time. While most models for children aren’t very fast, some are able to reach a top speed of twenty miles per hour. This type of low speed is all a child will need for play.

How much a scooter weighs will be affected by the size of the motor, battery and its construction. The more powerful and faster models will need heavy, large batteries and can weigh over fifty pounds. These faster and larger models should be reserved for older children only and those that have the strength and skills to handle them.

The maximum rider weight will typically fall into three levels. For younger kids, models will have a weight limit up to 120 pounds, while larger models designed for older kids will have a weight limit of about 160 pounds. For adults and teenagers the weight limit is often 250 to 300 pounds.

A variable throttle is found on pricier models and is designed for adults and teens. Lower priced scooters have just one speed.

Most scooters aren’t foldable, but they can be disassembled pretty easily when they need to be transported and many come with custom cases and transfer bags and packs.

Wheel Size

Wheel matters in any ride, when making a purchase on the scooter the wheels play an important role. The larger the wheels of the scooter, the more versatile the scooter is especially the front wheels.

They make sure that the scooter can pass through even or uneven pavement with ease. Even the scooters can pass through rocky areas easily. The toddler scooters usually came on wheels or wheels.

The three wheel size, however, is more recommended for stability that is represented by the two front wheels.

Reasons to why you should utilize one

If not for the obvious reason that our climate is heading in the wrong direction with all the carbon dioxide emissions from cars, factories, and even public transportation. Then there are a few other very good reasons to why you should already be utilizing the fantastic perks of an electric scooter.

Easy to operate. Learning to ride a scooter takes approximately minutes and is as simple as stepping up on the footpad and twisting the throttle.

Lightweight and portable. The total weight for these type of transportation vehicles comes in at around 2lbs, which means that you can easily take it with you anywhere.

Environmental-friendly side perk. Even if you aren’t an environmentally conscious person the side effect of you using an electric scooter for the fun of it is that you are still lowering your carbon footprint.

A much more enjoyable way of travel. An ideal and really fun way to get from point A to point B.

Available to all and without age limitation. Whether you’re a toddler, a kid, a teenager, or an adult there are electric scooters that will fit your needs, age, and weight.

No license required. You don’t need a drivers license to operate the scooter. Most scooters have a top speed below 20 mph. However, we recommend the use of proper safety gear such as a helmet which is required by law in some states.

Less maintenance needed. Apart from chain-saw oil for some motors and changing the tube on the inflatable tires or getting a new battery after a few years, there are little to no maintenance needed. But if needed the cost for spare parts are often very low. Especially compared to car parts.

Battery quality makes for safe riding. These scooters come with high capacity batteries that have long battery life and they are built of high-quality cells providing them a longer lifespan. Most scooters have UL certified chargers and batteries and safety is always a top priority for the brands. Many also possess extra safety features such as multiple circuit breakers, safety switches, and high-quality braking systems (both electrical and mechanical).

Last words

If you are looking for an economic and fun way of transportation, an electric scooter is a perfect choice for you. They are not only cost-effective in terms of maintenance and low cost per mile, but they are also kind to our environment. These battery-powered electric motor vehicles provide a smooth, comfortable and stress-free commuting solution at a fraction of the cost of a fuel powered vehicle. They cater to a wide range of users and are not only intended for adults. In fact, anyone can and should be using an electric scooter.

For parents, the big concern is often the safety aspect and many scooter brands have embraced this concern creating models with features such as speed limiting and kick to start making them perfectly safe to use for kids, toddlers and teenagers alike. While there is still a large range of electric scooters that cater to the needs of an adult.

Hover-XLS Folding Electric Scooter

This scooter is unlike anything else on our list. The arrow shaped frame is made from aircraft grade aluminum which is powdered to protect the integrity of the metal and preserve the finish. It weighs just 50llbs but can support weights of up to 285llbs.

The Hover-xLS is a designed for adults. The chainless engine is efficient, producing a top speed of 20mph, by far the fastest on this list. Its engine is powered by a lithium ion, cylindrical battery that allows you to travel 2miles on just a single charge. When you do run out, its light enough to fold-up and carry under your arm.

Good brakes are a must on a vehicle that goes as fast as this. There are anti-locking disc brakes fitted on the front and rear wheels that prevent you from slipping out at high speeds. Those wheels are 10” which means this scooter is comfortable riding over divots, cracks or stones. It keeps you comfortable via a dual suspension system.

Razor RX200 Off-Road Scooter

Scooter enthusiasts know that most electric scooters will never perform their best on a rough surface. Sometimes performance can drop by nearly half if you´re not riding on a marble smooth road. Razor have attempted to address this with the RX2000. The company´s first fully off-road scooter.

The RX2000 uses two 12V batteries to power its engine. That´s twice as much torque as the e90. Acceleration is controlled by a twist throttle whilst disc brakes are fitted to the off-ride tires to ensure a responsive stopping system.

This scooter really goes as well. A top speed of 12mph on almost any surface with a run-time of about 40 minutes. The scooter is built from steel which is far more durable than aluminum or carbon fiber. It is, of course, heavier as well weighing a stunning 46.llbs.

Razor Pocket Mod Signature Euro Electric Scooter

I really like the look of this children´s mini-scooter from Razor. It´s available in a range of retro colors like mint-green, turquoise or pale pink with a cream leather seat which adds a real 60´s flavor. There are custom decals so kids can make it their own plus the saddle is comfortable with generous leg room for when they grow taller.

The controls are really straightforward with a throttle and a brake much like you´d find on a bike. What impresses me most is how well balanced it is, even at lower speeds. The 15mph top speed is powered by a chain driven motor which means it won´t suffer on rougher surfaces or grass.

Razor E300 Electric Scooter

Razor have made a name for themselves by producing affordable scooters that offer decent overall performance. The E300 is one level up from the E200 offering 100 watts more power. For that, you get a cruising 1mph top speed that performs well indoors and on smooth pavements.

The E300 has a maximum run time of 40 minutes after which you´ll have to recharge for 1hours. It´s reasonably light-weight at just 48llbs so you will get a decent amount of thrust from the chain driven motor. The foot panel is nice and wide but it also houses the battery meaning there´s little ground clearance.

Electric Engines

There are three types of electric engine found on electric scooters. Each type has its own positives and drawbacks. Choosing the right engine is important because it directly influences the speed, torque and efficiency of your scooter. Below we´ll cover each engine type in depth to help you choose the right scooter.

Chain driven engine

Chain driven engines are by far the most common engine for electric scooters. The engine is similar to a bicycle in that there is large gear, the Pinion, and a smaller gear, the Sprocket. These are linked together by a continuous metal chain. The battery turns the Pinion which sets the chain in motion turning the Sprocket.

Chain driven engines are typically sturdy and long-lasting. They also provide an efficient level of power. The only drawbacks to a chain-driven engine is the weight of the chain as well as surging. Surging results in speed variations and makes it difficult for the scooter to maintain a consistent steady mph.

Chainless DC Hub Motor

The Glen Dolly scooter on this list uses a chainless DC Hub motor rather than a chain driven engine. The real advantage of using a chainless engine is that it´s compact. Sending energy through a drive shaft rather than through a chain. Chainless engines are more efficient plus they won´t suffer from surging in the way a traditional chain driven engine will.

Chainless motors are becoming increasingly common in electric bikes and scooters. One of the reasons for that is that power can be transferred in two directions. With the engine engaged power will come from the battery. However, if you push manually, the power you generate can be sent back to the battery to recharge it. Currently this technology is being used predominately on electric bicycles. In the near future I can see it becoming an industry standard on all personal transport vehicles.

Neo-dymium motors

Neo-dymium is an earth-magnet that produces a phenomenal amount of magnetic energy. So much so, that it is starting to be used in electric motors. These motors offer far more torque whilst fitting into a small space. Using magnetic force reduces friction significantly which means very little energy is wasted when in use.

Batteries

Knowing a little about batteries will really help you to make an informed decision about your scooter. When we speak about power, we´re primarily talking about the strength of the wattage. Naturally, running more watts through an engine will increase its ability to handle inclines and tough surfaces. It also effects the weight capacity as well the acceleration.

As a rule of thumb, a battery that emits 250W, typically 1volts is a children´s motor. That amount of watts just isn´t enough to carry a fully grown adult. You´ll also notice that motors in the 250W capacity the engine feels sluggish and will struggle on tougher surfaces. On the other hand, if you´re buying for a child, you´re not going to want a hugely powerful engine that could put their safety in jeopardy.

When you´re choosing an electric scooter think about what you´re going to use it for. If you´re planning on every day usage you´ll want a scooter with an output between 750W and 2000W. The higher the Wattage the higher price, so think carefully about what you actually need before you part with any money.

Lithium Ion Battery

Lithium battery technology was developed largely because of mobile phones, tablets and portable computers. The trend was to make devices smaller and smaller. As a result extensive, and expensive, research was invested in Lithium Ion batteries.

In today´s market that research is being utilized in electric scooters. Lithium batteries are superior to lead batteries because of the low charge time; typically, to hours. They´re also much safer. Lithium use metal to generate energy which means, even as the battery decays, there is no risk of leaking fluid or catching fire. If you´re looking at an electric scooter as a long term investment we´d highly recommend getting one that uses a lithium ion battery.

Remove the battery when the unit is not being used

If at all possible, try to remove the battery when the machine is not in use. As long as a battery remains connected to something it will send out a small charge. If the battery life is low, that small charge can cause rapid decay of the battery.

Charge fully before using the first time

The first time you charge your scooter ensure that it charges to the maximum. Lead acid batteries will sometimes require double charge time of up to 2hours the first time. Always follow the manufacturing instructions to ensure long-lasting battery life.

Let the battery run all the way down before recharging

When you run energy through a battery to recharge it, the battery will decay slightly with each charge. Lithium Batteries, for example, have a lifespan of years or 400 charges. To ensure your battery doesn´t decay faster than it needs to let the battery run all the way down before recharging.

Columbia TX-550 Seated Electric Scooter

You might think that we put this scooter here solely for its looks. We´d forgive you that because it does look really cool. A seventies vintage orange and cream panel is complemented by a dark leather saddle. It´s definitely an eye-catching way to move.

The reason the Columbia TX-550 makes it on our list is the engine. A high-tech, high-torque neo-dymium magnet motor.Neo-dymium is a rare earth magnet that offers unprecedented levels of power. They store lots of energy in a small space with phenomenal torque output. Performance-wise, this scooter has 550W of power that take you to a top speed of 18mph. It´s fast with 12.inch road tread tires and will run for 12-1miles on a single charge.

I think the team at Columbia have let themselves down a little bit when it comes to the battery. The unit is a lead filled battery that takes 1hours to charge. If that wasn´t bad enough the battery has to be fully removed for charging, and the initial set-up is confusing and difficult.

Maintenance of Electric Scooters

Maintaining an Electric Scooter is one of the vital things to make the Scooter serve you for a long time. It also helps the Scooter to provide the best performance for you. Here are the tips for the best maintaining of the Electric Scooter.

Assemble the electric scooter parts immediately if needed.

The size of the handlebar is important to me!

A handle bar helps to get a right balance on the Scooter.  It helps you to keep the perfect balance while you are about to take a tight turn or an unsmooth surface. As most of the Scooters have standard sized handle bars, you need to adjust the height of the seat to get a firm grip on the bar.

Schwinn Adult Shuffle Scooter with 26″ Wheels

When looking at the reviews, we noticed that 95% had a positive experience with their scooter and left or 5-star reviews. Of these reviews, people felt this was a great scooter for toddlers. They like that it is lightweight enough for little children to handle without too much difficulty. They also like that, although they had to assemble the scooter, it can be done in a snap.

Parents felt like the overall construction of the scooter was solid and it wasn’t flimsy at all. Of the remaining 5%, they left 3-star or below reviews. Of these reviews, people said it felt like the brake was designed to fall off “unexpectedly.” One customer said that the brake fell off unexpectedly merely months after purchase. Customers pointed out this scooter’s handle bars do not turn, so they have to learn how to lean to turn, which can take some getting used to.

Chain drive mechanism can be noisy

Verdict For its price, the Razor E300 electric scooter is a steel that is guaranteed to deliver tons of fun for you and your kid. It is perfect for riding around the neighborhood and enjoying some exhilarating downhill rides. However, due to its lack of battery read out or locking option, and its considerably long charge time, it may not be the ideal scooter for transportation.

Performance & Battery Life

One of the greatest features of the Glion Dolly e- scooter apart from its ultra portability is its 36v Sony Lithium Ion battery which is quick to charge taking only 3.hours to achieve a full charge and hours to achieve a 75% charge.

Performance & Battery Life

Design

While the design on most motorized scooters  doesn’t vary much, there are certain key electric scooter parts which can make your riding experience a lot more convenient and enjoyable.

Gear Levers – These come in two varieties: the thumb lever and the regular bike lever. Depending on your experience and comfort level you can choose either one. However, we did find the thumb lever to be more comfortable to use, given the smaller girth of the handlebars on most motorized scooters.

The Deck – The length of the deck on e-scooters can vary depending on the type of the scooter (i.e. for kids or adults). Scooters for kids usually have smaller decks while electric scooters for adults have slightly larger and heftier decks. Besides deck length, the height of the deck can also prove to be an important consideration, especially if your scooter runs out of juice. A deck that is closer to the ground makes it easier to kick and use your feet when the batteries die.

Lights – Look for built-in headlight and tail lights if you plan on riding your scooter back from work in the evening or late at night. In case your scooter doesn’t come with headlights/taillights, take your scooter to the local mechanic, because adding lights, especially on foldable handle bars could pose a problem.

The Motor

The motor is what drives the motorized scooter. Depending on their quality, and intended use, electric scooters sport motors of varying power. Most kid’s scooters will have motors of up to 350 watts which offer decent acceleration, and lower average speeds.

More powerful 500 watt motors deliver greater acceleration, speed as well as the ability to climb gentle slopes in the road. If you want an e-scooter that is capable of superior speeds and can comfortably climb steep slopes, make sure it is powered by a 750 watt motor or better still a 1000 watt power for maximum output.

Battery Pack

The batteries on most motorized scooters are lead-acid batteries, which are the oldest type of rechargeable battery. Although heavier and bulkier than the Lithium-ion batteries used to power most hoverboards, the lead acid battery costs much less in comparison, which is why motorized scooters cost less than other electric mobility devices.

This amount of run time is considerably subpar for a technologically sound and effective means of transport and does require improvement. Having said that, there are a couple of companies that offer lithium battery packs for their scooters, so if you want to enjoy longer travel times, it is wise to invest some more Benjamins for an enjoyable ride.

Breaks

When you travelling at speeds close to 40 mph, it’s a good idea to get a scooter that has a break in the back as well as in the front, so you can use both in case of emergencies. And, a motor upfront can also be useful since they have built-in electric brakes that are effective at gradually slowing down the scooter.

In some cases, having this type of front brake can prove to be more effective than a disc brake on the rear wheel, since jamming the back brake can cause the scooter to slide out of control.

Wheels and Suspension

At their most rudimentary design, scooters share the same suspension as most skateboards and longboards, i.e. none. Scooters with no suspension usually have small rubber wheels, weigh much less than their counterparts and are okay to ride on flat surfaces.

However, if you want to ride in the real world as well as have the option to maneuver across all kinds of terrain without hassle, you’re going to need suspension. The best suspension for electric scooters comes in the form of shock and coil springs.

Look for suspension in the front as well as at the back for an incredibly smooth and comfortable ride. As for tires your best off getting a scooter with pneumatic tires, which are made from rubber and filled with compressed air. These provide good shock absorption and traction for a fun and controlled ride.

Speed

Most scooters deliver relatively high speeds that are good enough to take the bike lane or ride on the footpath. If you’re looking for exceptional speeds such as more than 30-40mph, you should consider a scooter with a powerful motor upwards of 750 watts. Remember, that higher speeds and extra watts place a greater demand on the battery, so make sure that chart your route before you leave to avoid running out of juice.

Computer & Accessories

While the lower level scooters offer simple battery displays up top, the higher end models offer a computer which can display several important stats apart from battery life, such as mileage and speed.

In addition, some advanced computers also offer an option for cruise control. Besides the computer, you’re going to want some basic accessories, including a side stand for parking and maybe even trolly handle like the one rolling suitcases to roll your scooter around when you get tired of carrying it. Also, consider purchasing a carry bag in case you want to keep your ride under wraps and away from prying eyes.

FOLDING MECHANISM

This is another very great feature to look out for when looking out for a scooter for your kid. Especially if you have a very young child or younger children, you will the folding mechanism very valuable. Since you might have to carry the scooter with you to a park or anywhere else for your child to play with, having one that folds easily is a great way to make carrying the scooter easier. However, you should bear it in mind that scooters which can fold are not as strong as those which do not fold. Therefore, if your child would love to do tricks on it, for example, you might want to pick a scooter that does not fold.

THE WEIGHT OF THE SCOOTER

This would usually depend on how young or old your child is. A very young child will find it easier to carry and control a light scooter. Heavier scooters can be gotten for older children who are strong enough to bear the weight. The weight of a scooter usually depends on the maximum weight capacity and will increase with an increase in the maximum weight capacity.

THE HEIGHT OF THE HANDLEBAR

A handlebar which is at the height of your child’s waist is the excellent choice to provide safety as well as comfort. Handlebars that are too high can be really difficult to control and if they are too low, your child will have to hunch over to ride and that is not comfortable at all. Therefore, when trying to pick a scooter for your child, look for one that has a handlebar with a height just around their waist so that they can control it and ride with comfort.

Tips to Help You Choose the Right Scooter

Today’s market is absolutely flooded with a large variety of scooters to select from. They can be found in different styles, materials, price ranges and levels of quality. Choosing the right scooter for your child can be a daunting task as you attempt to find one that is safe, durable and affordable for you while still being something your child will be excited to have. That’s why we have put together the following list of tips to guide you in what to look for in choosing a scooter which is safe and will be fun for your child to use.

Kick scooters can be found with two, three, or four wheels. For older children and adults who have a good sense of balance, two wheels are just fine. Young kids who are still developing their sense of balance need the stability offered by either three or four wheels.

Both the size of the wheels and the material they are made from make a big difference when riding over the bumps on the sidewalk or path. A softer, more pliable material will provide much better shock absorption, as will a larger size wheel. Especially for young children, you will want the front wheel to be at least 100mm in size.

When choosing a scooter for your preschooler, you will want to take care to ensure the wheels have good quality bearings and roll smoothly. If they don’t, your child’s developing muscles will tire quickly and your child will lose interest in riding because it’s just no fun.

Hand Grips

Hand grips typically come in either rubber or foam. There are a few differences between the two but as long as you are aware of the differences, it may just boil down to whichever material you prefer.

Rubber grips don’t soil as quickly or easily, and they are typically more durable than foam. Rubber grips generally wrap around and completely cover the ends of the handlebars, which eliminates the need for end plugs. With foam grips, the ends of the handlebars are usually plugged with plastic or metal which can scratch and develop burrs when coming into contact with the ground. These scratches and burrs can cause injuries to small hands.

With the information above, you should have the tools to find the perfect scooter for your child; one which both you and your child will love, being both safe and capable of providing hour after hour of fun.
