suction pool cleaner Buyer’s Guide

If you keep the before points in mind, you can easily go out to the market and buy suction pool cleaner, right? No!

The suction side pool cleaner is a perfect choice for the buyer as it can be installed on any filtration system of the pool directly. Moreover, it can be operated by the power of filtration system only. Hence it is less costly as compared to the other pool cleaners. Additionally, it also works on the other devices without using pool timer.

Simple to install

As the suction side pool cleaners directly attach to the existing pool system, you do not need to have separate pool line for the installation. Hence the installation is easy. It can be done within minutes. Sometimes you do not require equipment.

Easy maintenance

Suction side pool vacuum is easy to maintain. You just need to store it out of the pool in a dry place after vacuuming. The one part is moving technology, easy and efficient designed features, fewer complications in mapping the route of cleaning make it be less maintained pool cleaner among all.

Main features

As mentioned above selection of suction pool cleaner wholly depends upon the size, type and floor surface of the pool. You should choose a vacuum, which can be accessible to the every portion of the in-ground pool. Moreover, it should be inexpensive, less maintenance and easy to installation.

Pentair Kreepy Krauly almost satisfies all the above requirements with its prevailing features. Unique attributes such as float directional technology, cleaner wings, and single part moving technology set apart Pentair Kreepy Krauly from other pool vacuums. Neglecting some drawbacks, you can pick this handy little guy for the cleaning of your in-ground pools.

Filter choice

This is defined as the speed at which a pool cleaner can clean within a given period. This rate is usually measured in gallons per hour. Choosing a cleaner with a high rate means that even its debris and dirt storage capacity is also big. Hence, if you have a big pool, such kind of a cleaner would be highly recommended.

Size and weight

The bigger you cleaner is, the more powerful its motor and also the heavier it will be. The choice of the size and weight will be highly based on your specific needs and preferences.

Does your pool give you a headache when it comes to cleaning, and you are now looking for the easiest way to achieve this without much hassle? Well, correct me if I am wrong, but most pool owners, especially those whose pools are intended for residential use, normally don’t see the value of investing in a robotic pool cleaner. It is such a sad thought because until you experience the power of such a machine, you can never tell of its greatness.

If you would like to give these machines a shot, then let me share my opinion about my best pool cleaner, the Polaris F9450 and the wonders it can do for your pool. In my view, no other pool cleaner can beat the Polaris F9450 and so far, it is one of my favorite from a list of over 100 such cleaners. Let me explain. It is worth mentioning that with a pool of 50 feet long, the Polaris F9450 will adequately cover all the areas for a spotless clean. Actually, for the many times I have used it, I have never had reservations on how its performance. Even more, if your pool is frequently used or it’s for commercial purposes, you will not have to worry about maintaining it. This vacuum cleaner is powerful, and it gets almost all sizes of debris in your swimming pool. Furthermore, it comes with a large canister that filters dirt ranging from the smallest to the largest particle in your pool. You can even remove the filter, empty and then rinse before replacing.

You will also feel comfortable while using this model since its long cord rarely tangles. This means that you will clean easily without any issues. Better yet, it doesn’t rely on water pressure or a booster pump hence does an amazing job cleaning the bottom of your pool. Although some pool designs can cause it to flip when climbing the walls, this is not a deal breaker since you can turn off that mode. Moreover, its brushes will scrub off all the dirt and algae on your pools surface and even though it costs a couple of 100 dollars, you can be sure never to regret your purchase.

Suction cleaners attach with a hose to the skimmer box, and use the suction created by existing pool pump to suck up dirt and debris, which will end up in your swimming pool’s filter. Suction cleaners are the most common type of automatic pool cleaner.

Swimming Pool Vacuum

Significantly cheaper than an automatic cleaner, a manually operated pool vacuum has a hose that connects to the intake pipe to the pool filter. It has a vacuum head on wheels and a telescopic pole.

You connect the hose to the vacuum head & the vacuum head to the telescopic pole, put the cleaner in the pool, and then hold the hose under the pool surface to allow all the air to escape, before connecting it to the suction port under the skimmer basket (if the hose is full of air it may damage your pool pump, or cause it to cut out). You then move the vacuum over the sides, steps and bottom of the pool to suck debris into the pool filter.

A manual pool vacuum has no moving parts and is a cost-effective way to clean your pool. However, depending on the size of the swimming pool, it may take you several hours to completely clean your pool. Backwashing the filter after vacuuming adds even more time to the task. Like all cleaners connected to your pool pump, the cleaner your pool’s filtration system, the more efficiently the pool cleaner will work.

Swimming Pool Skimmer

A swimming pool skimmer is essential to pool maintenance whether using manual or automatic vacuum units. It uses the same long pole as the manual vacuum and consists of a net on a rigid frame. It is used to collect debris from the surface of the water before it reaches the basket filter in the skimmer box, or the floor of the pool. It is a good habit to skim the surface before cleaning the pool – even if you use a pool cover there will likely be some debris that gets through. The cost of a skimmer net is minimal. Using one regularly saves wear and tear on your filtration system, and makes cleaning a simpler task.

Swimming Pool Brush

Another cleaning attachment which typically uses the same telescopic pole as a manual cleaner head, is a stiff brush for removing dirt and debris from the pool surface (especially the steps). A brush can loosen stubborn dirt or debris, to enable a manual vacuum or automatic cleaner to remove them.

No extra ports or pumps to install

This type of cleaner is generally the least expensive automatic type. It uses a long hose, connected to the inlet at the bottom of the skimmer box. The hose must be long enough to allow the unit to reach the farthest and deepest parts of your pool. Suction-side cleaners use your existing plumbing and filtration system. Be aware that all the dirt from your pool will be dragged into your existing filter, which will lead to extra work for you, cleaning or backwashing the filter. In addition, the more dirt and debris there is in the filter, the less efficiently the cleaner will work.

If your pool gathers a lot of leaves or other large debris, it may be advisable to buy a separate leaf catcher adapter that which connects to the hose and traps large debris before it enters the filtration system. However, if you have little or no large debris, but a lot of fine dirt or sand collecting in your pool, a suction-side cleaner is likely to be more effective than a pressure-side device.

Connecting & setup is similar to the manual cleaner described above. You may need to turn your cleaner upside down to allow all the air inside to escape, otherwise the cleaner may not sink to the bottom of your pool.

Once the unit is connected and the filter is running, the suction-side cleaner uses the suction of the water being pulled through it by the pool pump, to move itself around your pool – it basically acts like a moving drain. Most suction-side cleaners move in a random pattern across the floor and sides of the pool, however the geared / wheeled types generally move in a series of pre-determined left and right turns. Brushes or squeegees attached to the underside of the unit detach particles of sand, dirt and debris, and suction carries debris to the pool filter. Unlike other types of automatic cleaner, there are no separate filter bags to clean or replace with this type.

You can adjust the flow volume at the hose or on the unit to fine-tune the operation of your cleaner. Too much pressure can make the cleaner move too quickly, which can cause it to miss areas needing cleaned. Pressure above what the cleaner is designed for can also cause damage to the cleaner itself. Conversely, too little pressure will result in your cleaner not moving at all, moving slowly, or not being able to climb the walls of your pool.

Some pools have a dedicated connection for suction-side cleaners. However this is not common & is generally done when the pool is installed.

If your pool pump, filtration and plumbing system has been sized correctly by the pool manufacturer, this type could well be the best solution for your pool. On the other hand, if your pool pump and filter struggle to operate the pool in normal conditions, it may be best to look at another type of cleaner which doesn’t use your existing plumbing.

Be aware that if your pool only has one skimmer box, this will be bypassed while your cleaner operates, so the surface of your pool will not be skimmed during the cleaning cycle. This task may be ongoing for several hours.

As suction-side pool cleaners need the pool pump to run continuously, they are less energy efficient than other cleaners.

In-Floor Systems

If you are looking for the ultimate pool cleaning system with all the features, functionality and convenience, an in-floor system may be what you need.

In-floor systems use a separate pump and water circulation system that pumps water to a series of directional jets in the floor of the pool. These jets rise from the floor of the pool during a cleaning cycle, similar to lawn sprinklers in an irrigation system. The jets blow all the debris on the pool floor to a collection point, where it is removed from the pool. Once the cleaning cycle is complete, the jets sink back into the pool floor.

With an in-floor cleaning system there is need to vacuum the pool, and the water should be crystal clear all year.

As there is a lot of plumbing involved, this type of system is best installed at the same time as the pool. The cost of retrofitting this type of system to an existing pool is usually prohibitive. If you are interested in an in-floor system, Paramount is the world leader.

Solar-Powered Pool Skimmer

Solar-powered pool cleaners are a relatively recent development. They harness free energy from the sun, floating around the surface of your pool all day, collecting leaves and debris before they have a chance to fall to the floor of your pool.

Automatic Pressure Side

Pressure side automatic cleaners work off water pressure from your pump. Some pool owners use the same pool pump they already have in place, while others purchase a separate booster pump specifically to operate the cleaner. The option is completely yours.

The water pressure from the pump is what drives the cleaner around the pool. This also forces and holds the debris bag in place. If you live in an area with a lot of trees or in an area where you get large debris in your pool, this cleaner is for you.

Pressure side cleaners do not filter small particles into the bag well, nor do they act like a moving drain like suction cleaners do. Still, for that same reason, pressure cleaners do not suck debris or dirt directly into your filter or pump basket, allowing you longer periods of time between cleanings.

Shares 12         Our buying guide will give you right direction to choose the best suction pool vacuum and what to           look for when you find it. Swimming is the fourth most-popular activity or sport in U.S.A. So, it is           very important to keep clean the swimming pool all over the year (Stat. – Census Bureau, USA).

This is the exact reality that the Solar Breeze NX Automatic Pool Skimmer makes possible.

Hose length

We always recommend to buy a pool cleaner which has a good hose length so that it can go to the bottom of the pool and scrub everything. So, try to choose a vacuum cleaner which has at least one or two meter extra lengthy hose than your pool cleaner.

You may need to mix water and electricity for some kinds of vacuum. In this case, they need to ensure that the vacuums are going to be safe. There are various kinds of certifications (CE, UL, ETK, CSA) and they are generally differed by regions. So, ensure that the device has been certified for your region. Some vacuums may show multiple certifications which identify that safety is important.

Forgetting Other Pool Care

If you don’t maintain your pool, you can’t make it germ free by just using a top-notch pool sweeper. Chemical balance, temperature and run times are all set as recommended. Improper balance will create green algae in the pool and if this happens, it will add more expenses to your budget.

Baracuda G3

The Hayward Tiger Shark QC RC9990GR with Quick Clean Technology is one of the top quality cleaner in the market. The robotic system in the Hayward cleaner works best for cleaning up the dirt and the grime off your inground pool. Cleaning a pool is a daunting task, but with an inground cleaner, it becomes very easy and also extremely less time consuming.

Dolphin 99996323

The Dolphin 9999635Triton with Caddy Swivel Cable is a fierce competitor in the fight for the cleaner. It equipped with most sought after features like microprocessor technology that anyone would want in a in a good cleaner.

Work Efficiency

They don’t just save time, but their work is going to be better seven days a week than manual done. Manually, we may end up giving up on really small debris, but with them, you can filtrate every type of debris. Same amount of work can now be done in less time, which increases the work efficiency. Also, some cleaners use less power, to deliver same work, adding up to overall efficiency. So it is preferable to switch to a cleaner as soon as possible.

If we consider suction side cleaners, they’re efficient than manual working on the pool. Pressure side are a better option if your pool is big, and you require to remove some large debris. Robotics work well than all of them, because of their set and free capability. They also clean the whole pool, and filtrate the debris into the bag. Solar ones are suggested if you’re investing good, and a regular user. Their work efficiency depends upon how you’re going to use them.

Cost Effectiveness

If we look at this prospective, they save quite a time, and time is money. They save lot of cost by saving your time, and doing the work all by themselves.

Solar pool cleaners use negligible energy to work, making them work almost free. You just need to invest for one time only. Robotic type need electricity, but they do clean the pool with an hour. If you have to make it do by a worker, it is obvious that they’re going to charge more than the electricity consumed. Overall, they help save the money, by making the pool clean, and hygienic, because nobody wants an infection due to debris running in the pools.

Wheel Drive

Due to their smaller, compact nature, wheel drive cleaners aren’t quite as efficient when it comes to cleaning a pool. These units are best suited for smaller pools and will provide a surprisingly effective amount of cleaning capability, provided dirt and debris are loose and not caked on.

Programmable Timer

Robotic pool cleaners have varying degrees of timer programmability. Basic programming allows you to program in the time you want the unit to clean, while more advanced programming allows users to punch in a daily schedule. Remote sensing capability will let you point a remote control at a specific area of the pool, and the cleaner will take care of the affected area and go back to its starting position.

Rectangular Below Ground Pools

Rectangular below ground pools are the easiest to clean and any type of cleaner would be suitable for use. If you clean regularly, a basic suction cleaner would be all you need, providing that your pump power is up to snuff. Pressure cleaners are a step up and meant for larger pools with the potential for algae growth, or if you simply prefer to have a heavier-duty cleaner. Robotic cleaners also work well in rectangular pools, but given their high price you might be better served to go with one or the other pump driven models.

Designer or Non-Rectangular Below Ground Pools

This is what a robotic pool cleaner is made for, and offers the best performance out of any of the other cleaner types. Since they’re not tethered to a hose, these units can move freely about the pool, easily negotiating curves and angles other pool cleaners might miss. They have less of a chance to get hung-up in a corner due to their innate directional sensing ability, and they can better navigate walls which don’t have square corners.

Can the other pool cleaners get the job done? Certainly! But afterwards, you may be out there with a manual pool cleaner to take care of the areas that they have missed. In most cases a robotic pool cleaner will clean almost every nook and cranny without you having to lift a finger.

The cons

Restraint of the Bacteria and Germ

We have already said you that the pool water is the best place for the bacteria and germ. Without proper maintain and cleaning, the water and the environment of the pool will be unhygienic. But the pool cleaning unit will not give them any chance to generate if you clean your pool with it properly. These cleaners gulp all the debris and dirt of the pool and keep the water and environment of the pool hygienic.

Manual vs. Automatic

If we imagine about the pool cleaning with manual cleaners, we will get the actual idea about the benefits of using this product. With the manual cleaner, we had to clean the pool with great labor. It was a lengthy process to clean the pool with the manual cleaners.

Again we could not completely clean the cleaners. We needed to wet ourselves to clean the pool. In the cold weather, it was a very painful task for us. Again we needed many tools and accessories to clean the pool manually. It was costly cleaning too.

But now we do not need to do so. We are now so free and confident with the automatic cleaner of the pool. They take very little time than the manual cleaner. We do not need to control it. They can clean the pool automatically. The automatic cleaners require very few tools. These cleaners are a money saving machine also.

Watch Out For Twisted Cables

Twisted cables are the most frustrating aspect of owning an automated pool cleaner. In addition, tangles impair the cleaning function by not letting the device reach every nook and cranny of your pool. Read the reviews to make sure you buy a unit with an underwater cable swivel, to avoid this problem.

Cable Swivel

Robotic cleaners turn all the time and sometimes climb vertical walls. This can tangle the power cord unless a 360 degree swivel is in place.  With no swivel in place, a tangled power cable will frequently impair the cleaning ability and will become a mess to untangle.

Dolphin Nautilus

Not so happy customers said excepting that you have the power channel adjoining the pool, the power cable is short and the design they provided is rather prohibited for using extensions.

I consider it number because of the fact that it is user friendly and of the best quality out of all the automatic pool cleaners so far.
