tackle bag Buyer’s Guide

If you keep the before points in mind, you can easily go out to the market and buy tackle bag, right? No!

Spiderwire Fishing tackle backpack

If you want a stylish tackle backpack, then this Spiderwire backpack is the best fishing tackle backpack for you. I am very fond of the design and the elegant style of this backpack.

The top compartment of this tackle backpack can be used to store personal belongings like keys, cell phone, GPS, etc. The middle cooler compartment can be used to keep food, drinks, small clothes or baits. You can keep utility boxes in the lower compartment to be fully secure. In this way, a long fishing trip or day will be much easier than before.

In this backpack, you will get three medium utility boxes with the package.  You can quickly sort things, and make the best out of your fishing tackles.

TackleTime Fishing Backpack

This is a fishing backpack which can be used for several types of purpose. This can be used for fishing, hiking, or other personal needs too.

You can use this spacious backpack to store heavy gear, trays or tackle or tackle boxes. There are multiple individual pockets to keep different types of stuff.

If you are into different types of sports including fishing, then this is a good choice for you. Otherwise, you may want to check other backpacks specially designed to keep tackles.

WE SAY: This twin tier, lay flat bag is ideal for storing items like pole rollers up to 700mm in length, seatbox accessories and pole roosts etc. When the bag is fully opened both compartments can be accessed with ease, and both have wipe-clean bases. As the bag lays flat when opened, your zips are always kept off the ground so there’s no chance of them getting clogged up with mud.Manufactured from a tough and durable material with carry handles and a large padded, detachable shoulder strap.

Chapmans Angling £59.99

WE SAY: Well thought out and cleverly designed so you can be super organised on the bank. There are two main compartments for storing box accessories, tackle and items of bait as well as an outer zipped compartment for nets, riddles and sidetrays. All of the compartments fold out for easy access to tackle and bait. There’s an additional keepnet pocket with drainage holes on the outside. A hard durable base provides extra protection and ensures longevity and the reinforced lower edges prevent wear on key areas.

Chapmans Angling £34.95

WE SAY: Tough and durable, with all the features a regular match or pleasure angler could ask for – especially on a budget. It boasts a protective rubberised base which can be wiped cleaned and an extra large front pocket for housing keepnets and sidetrays. The large main compartment will easily hold all the gear you’ll need to take for a day on the bank and there are additional external zipped pockets at either end. With comfortable EVA-covered carry handles and an adjustable padded shoulder strap are also included.

Chapmans Angling £41.99

WE SAY: A compact 4litre carryall with two front and two zipped end pockets, which can house a wide combination of nets and accessories. The large main compartment is suitable for bigger items of tackle and there is also a front compartment for storing keepnets and landing nets. A padded shoulder strap and oversized zips increase reliability and improve performance. The bag is constructed from a wipe-clean material which so you can keep your luggage looking like new.

Chapmans Angling £74.99

WE SAY: One of the more expensive pieces of luggage in this buyers’ guide, so is it worth the money? Well, in a word, yes. As soon as you pick up this bag you can see why it’s a favourite among many match anglers. Well constructed and manufactured to a high standard, it feels solid thanks to the tough, PVC-backed fabric nylon and highly durable reinforced plastic. There are three external pockets and a large main compartment, plus a supplied twin net bag. This securely clips into the keepnet compartment. Also includes two groundbait bowls.

Chapmans Angling £36.99

WE SAY: The Frenzee Match Pro luggage range has been designed around the needs of modern anglers and styled to suit with value to appeal to everybody. The external pockets are handy for storing baits and small items of tackle and the central compartment will hold pretty much everything else you’re likely to need. The outer net and tray pocket is shallower than most bags but will still store a keepnet. Oversized zips open easily and they all feature easy-pull rubber grips. The base is reinforced for durability, with a padded shoulder strap too.

Chapmans Angling £32.50

WE SAY: Xtreme luggage is hard wearing, practical and designed as a fully modular system. This 50-litre capacity bag is a compact version of the Mega Carryall but will still hold an Xtreme Cool/Baits Bag and Xtreme Accessory Cases in a neat modular format. The 840 denier super-tough nylon material wipes down easily and there is a tough coated twin-skin reinforced material at the base for added durability. Not only ideal for commercial match anglers but also ideal for river anglers who don’t want to be weighed down by too much kit.

DRENNAN MEDIUM CARRYALL

WE SAY: A 55-litre capacity bridges the gap between the 50-litre Small Carryall and the 70-litre Large Drennan versions. It’s made from tough, waterproof fabric with a padded shoulder strap and carry handles. The hard, moulded base  is incredibly sturdy and rigid enough to ensure the bag retains its shape. Along with two handy zip-up side pockets it also has two full-length pockets for items such as keepnets, landing nets, riddles and trays, and a small zipped internal storage pocket under the lid.

Storage

How much gear will you need to store? Are you planning on just a few hours regularly after work on you favorite stretch of river? If so then you don’t need to be able to carry 4-trays of lures and hooks/weights. All you need is maybe one of the smaller sling packs.

However if you are a bit more adventurous and tend to fish unfamiliar waters regularly or are planning on hiking out into the back country for fishing then you will need to bring a bigger variety of gear. If this is you then one of the larger backpacks that can carry multiple trays and potentially enough food and water for a long day out is the better option.

Comfort

Like any backpack a pack for fishing needs to be comfortable when worn for extended periods especially if it is full of gear. Firstly the pack should distribute the weight evenly across your back and shoulders without any specific pressure point from a strap or it’s shape.

Waterproofing

Having a little extra space than you think you might need is always a good precaution, lets face it most fishermen always bring too much gear “just in case”. The best tackle backpack needs to cover all these points.

Shimano Blackmoon Backpack

A quality fishing bag from a name you can trust the Shimano Blackmoon is perfect for those longer trips that require a little extra comfort from the design and more durability from the build.

TakleTime Fishing Backpack

The Tackle Time Fishing Backpack sets itself apart from some of the other packs on out list because it is one of the lightest here.

Even the zippers were given some thought as they are corrosion resistant and should stand up to the damp conditions of fishing. It also doesn’t scream fishing backpack so you can use it for other uses too.

Features

The designers went so far as to provide a pack that has a changing mat for when you are changing out of your waders. But they did not stop there, the front has a special compartment for you fishing boots so that they can dry out as you walk back to the car.

It has a really nice thin profile unlike some of the other boxier designs in our fishing backpack review. If you are fishing along a heavily tree lined river you will really appreciate the body hugging silhouette as it has a much lower chance of snagging on a tree.

Calcutta Framed Tackle Backpack

Big on storage and with three lure trays included this is a great value waterproof backpack that has most scenario’s covered. As it’s name suggest the Calcutta has an internal frame so that its shaped is always maintained and will not deform like some other bags. However the frame does add to the overall weight of the pack so best not for very long days out.

IN THIS ARTICLE

The straps have to be well crafts and sewn properly so that they can bear the weight of your gear.

The wider the strap placement on your shoulders the more evenly distributed the weight will be.

If you get straps that are narrow, the bulk of the weight will be on your lower back area and cause you muscle strain.

Waterproof

You should also consider getting a backpack that is waterproof.

After all, you are working around water, and the last thing you want is chaffing due to your sack being wet and irritating your skin on the way back.

Waterproof backpacks also don’t hold in the musky smell as they dry quickly and eliminate the odors that come with soggy packs.

Plus, waterproof backpacks also help with mud and clean easier than backpacks that are not waterproof.

A waterproof backpack will also be a life saver for those slippery spots you may encounter during your trip.

Material

One more thing you should look for in fishing backpacks is the durability of the material.

You don’t want to find yourself spending time plucking stickers out of the material and wasting valuable time that could be better used for fishing.

Shimano Blackmoon Fishing Backpack

The Shimano Blackmoon Fishing Backpack is made with heavy-duty material that takes a licking and remains durable.

The Shimano is designed perfectly for those who travel long distances to get to their favorite fishing spots. This backpack comes with an abundant amount of storage space.

There is more than enough room for all your gear and lunch for the day.

The Shimano has pockets so that you can easily organize all your tools and keep track of them without needing to waste any time to find and use them.

The tray area is in the front, and you have to unzip the middle of the bag and unfold it to get to the tray. While this may be a bit troublesome for some fishermen who would rather not deal with the extra effort to get to the tray, this adjusts and fits better.

The backpack comes with two utility boxes for your lures and other tackle. If a storm happens to surprise you, this backpack also comes with the rain cover to keep your sack dry.

An added bonus for the Shimano fishing backpack is the mesh rod holders on both sides of the pack to allow your hands to be free for other things you are bringing on your fishing trip.

The Shimano Blackmoon Fishing Backpacks arranges its storage spaces in a slightly different way than other fishing packs and you’ll absolutely love to walk around with it.

Phantom Aquatics Waterproof Backpack

If you are looking for a waterproof backpack, then the Phantom is your kind of pack.

The Phantom is 100% waterproof and will float if dropped in the water and still keep you things dry. The pack is designed to protect your gear from dust, sand, and dirt with its unique high frequency welded construction.

Plus this pack offers a two-way sealing system and lumbar support.

The biggest downside to this bag is the fact that it is just a bag.

There is plenty of storage space in the bag, but you can only get to your stuff from the top of the bag and doesn’t offer any additional pouches.

This bag is ideal for clothing and light tackle but is not recommended for sharp items as they may poke through the material. The reason this backpack made the list is due to how waterproof and resistant this bag is.

The Phantom has a comfortable back panel with airflow design to keep the sweat from soaking into your pack. Plus, it has elasticated front webbing and reflective patches on the front and shoulder straps.

Calcutta Tackle Fishing Backpack

The Calcutta Framed Tackle Backpack waterproof pouches, so that you can be sure your tackle and personal belongings stay dry and will not see any water.

The Calcutta comes with tackle trays, three trays in fact with their specific space.

This fishing backpack comes with ample amount of storage for everything you could want to bring with you for your day of fishing.

The backpack is specially designed for anglers in mind with padded pockets and breathable foam back support.

It includes a storm flap that covers the whole bag to protect against all elements. The interior frame is designed for function and stability.

A bonus for this pack is the foldout lure storage pockets, so you don’t have to unload all your gear to get to the bottom of the bag.

With all the storage space in the backpack, the only thing you might have any difficulties with is remembering where you put everything.

This pack comes with six pockets so you might find yourself fumbling around for a few minutes as you unzip all the pockets in search of your tools.

The frame to the backpack adds a bit of weight to the product so it may be just as fit for a day long excursion in the water.

MadBite SlingBack Fishing Backpack

The MadBite Sling Back is a two-in-one bag that can be used both as a tackle bag and backpack.

It doesn’t sit on your back the way an average backpack would making it more comfortable and light.

Instead, this fishing backpack sits to one side on the lower part of your back.

Unlike conventional packs, this one allows you to access all your gear quickly and efficiently and all you is right at your fingertips.

The material is soft and the backpack is not bulky at all. It is compact in size with enough compartments to store your lures and personal items in one convenient location.

You don’t need to take off this backpack when looking for something as everything can be accessed easily and everything is organized.

This bag is waterproof and offers non-rusting zippers. While the convenience of this bag is incredible, it isn’t nearly as big as a regular fishing backpack.

There is a compartment to store a water bottle but doesn’t have any of the other perks like a tray, or storage space for tackle boxes. You have to organize your gear in pouches instead of boxes.

Eyourlife Sport Outdoor Backpack

You want your bag sturdy then look no further than the Eyourlife Sports Outdoor Military Rucksacks Tactical Bag.

This bag offers two front pockets to store your fishing gear and is made of heavy-duty water resistant nylon.

This backpack is made for those long hikes to get to your favorite spot by offering a light-weight pack for all your needs.

The Military Rucksack has the interior lined with a rubber coating that will provide the best repellant for water you can get.

It may look small but can store more than what it seems.

You can easy pack your lunch and two small supplies boxes within this sack, but the outer pockets are where you can store all your tools you need for a day out on the water. There is even a place for your glasses or a small flashlight.

While the material of the pack itself is sturdy, the pack comes with plastic clips that will break under pressure. This pack isn’t as big as some of the others on this list but does the job for a day trip.

This backpack is not recommended for weight exceeding 80 pounds. Plus, there isn’t any storage space for your rods so you’ll have to hold them, but besides that, it is a decent little pack.

The first one on our list is a miniature tackle bag from Piscifun. The small size makes it ideal for carrying fishing essentials for river and stream fishing.

The sling bag is constructed from a durable PVC canvas material that’s resistant to wears and tears. Its features include a padded ergonomic strap, lots of big and small compartments, good quality zippers, a carabineer at the top of the bag for attaching gear, an additional pocket on the side with a plier holder in front, and a side-release buckle for easy detachment from the body.

The mesh compartment on the front of the bag is perfect for stashing your gadgets and smaller necessities while the main pocket features a lot of pockets – two velcros and one mesh where you can store spools of fishing lines and to standard stowaway boxes, further adding to the functional design of the bag.

Spiderwire Wolf Tackle Bag

The Spiderwire Wolf Tackle Bag is a rugged and very masculine-looking bag made from waterproof polyester and thick denier material that can definitely fit your whole fishing arsenal… And a little room for extra stuff.

It has two front pockets with fishing organizers, plier holders, removable fishing line dispensers, and a molded top handle, bottom and shoulder strap.

It’s amazing how I can fit everything in this bag. The side pockets are convenient for holding water bottles and snacks if you don’t have a cooler while the two front pockets can secure your gadgets and smaller fishing gear.

There are also two plier holders attached on the front pockets. And lastly, I can fit utility boxes in the spacious main area as well as three to four fishing lines in the sideline holders.

Okeechobee Fats Tackle Bag

It also features a polyester material, comes with large utility boxes, reliable stitchings and zippers, tons of pockets, molded handles and bottom, front pockets with organizers, plier holders, fishing pole holders, and elastic holders.

Additionally, the bag includes a nice sunglass holder in front, so you won’t have to worry where to put your eye protector and a top waterproof pouch for your fishing lines.

I’ve tried stashing my Plano 3440 series stowaway boxes into the central space and surprisingly, it can fit eight trays! Well, it’s just one option if you don’t want to go with the boxes the bag comes with.

Berkeley Small Tackle Bag

If you are a newbie at fishing and have a beginner’s arsenal, I suggest you go for the Berkeley Small Tackle Bag. I’ve given this one as a gift to my son who just learned fishing, and he loved it.

The tackle bag comes with tackle trays, mesh pouches, slim front and side pockets, removable and padded strap, and a hook and loop closure on the front pouch.

YOGAYET Fishing Tackle Bag

This last entry is a strappy tackle bag. It has exterior straps for all sorts of things – bottles, rain jackets, and fishing lines.

The YOGAYET Fishing Tackle Bag is constructed from corduroy-like high-density fabrics that are heavy-duty.

It also features multiple compartments, lots of exterior pockets, a front pocket with organizers, durable zippers, padded waist strap, a bungee cord at the top handle, a bottom strap, an extra pocket behind the flap, and a separate waist pack.

The bungee cord is a very thoughtful addition to secure your tripod or water bottles. Another functional feature of this bag is the bottom strap where I can roll up my rain coat when I go fishing during a not-so-nice weather.

Moreover, the extra pocket behind the flap can serve as extra storage for your fishing tackles. Lastly, the main compartment can fit up to to medium-sized utility trays.

Are you impressed yet? Well, don’t be because I haven’ introduced you to the waist pack yet. Yes, this bag can be worn around the waist too.

So the padded waist strap can be tucked inside a compartment if you don’t want to use it. It’s made from a breathable material, has a buckled closure, and elastic holders for pliers, scissors, and other essential tools.

Didn’t Like

The Verdict Clearly, the winner of the round-up review is the YOGAYET Fishing Tackle Bag. It surpasses all the other tackle bags in our list when it comes to design, functionality, space, organization, and durability.

The only drawback with this piece of bag is the space of the main compartment which is relatively small to fit large utility boxes but if you’ll opt for the medium sized trays, it will definitely fit in the bag.

A lot of surf-fishing takes place during low light periods of the day and after dark. Therefore a quality neck light is essential for illuminating areas where you are wading or walking, tying knots, and unhooking fish. Again, there are many products out there on the market today at all different prices. My favorite light for years has been the disposable light from Garrity. It costs a mere bucks, lasts a month of surf trips and is bright. I tape this to some bargain surgical tubing and hang it around my neck for easy access and handling.

I will not go surf-fishing without a pair of good long handle pliers that have cutters. They are essential for un-hooking fish, particularly bluefish and for cutting fishing line and leaders. Buy a pair that at the very least are rust resistant. Stainless steel models are a good choice. Make sure your pliers have a line cutting feature though.

The Controversies Surrounding Backpacks

Now a common misconception related to hike bags is that wearing backpacks for a long time can be hurting and painful. Well, what you need to understand is that this possibility only exists if you are wearing a poorly fitted backpack. When you make sure that you select the appropriate knapsack, then all you will feel is the weight and not the pain for sure.

Canister vacuums are also popular — especially in the UK. They are a bit more versatile than uprights, because you can lift the canister and take it wherever you want to go. Canister vacs still tout a full-sized engine, so you gain versatility without losing power. They are known for working well on stairs, because you can carry the canister and use the long wand extender to tackle each level with ease.

Handheld

These little mini-vacs are great for smaller jobs. Some are cordless, so they work well for quick and easy cleaning or as a compact on-the-go option for RV owners. It’s also a great supplement if your main vacuum doesn’t offer many attachments or if you’d rather not pull out your whole vacuum every time you spot a mess.

Most versatile

If you have asthma or allergies or are just generally concerned with air quality, a vacuum with a HEPA filter might be worth your consideration. Many of them are removable and can be cleaned with water until they need to be replaced. This might all sound really good, but some non-HEPA models can do just as well as their High Efficiency Particulate Air counterparts. So do your research — emission reduction can vary a lot.

Fox Ven-Tec VRS2

There are three sizes of this bag available – compact, standard and wide – each boasting a rip-stop Ven-Tec waterproof outer.

The multiple layers combine to create a seriously warm sleeping bag, but also allow you to choose which layers you sleep between.

Each is fleece covered and there are excellent crash zips throughout.

Wychwood Morpheus Ultra 7

No stone has been left unturned in the development of this out-and-out winter bag, designed solely with warmth in mind.

The panelled construction helps the fill to stay in place, while the windproof and waterproof outer creates extra insulation.
