tennis racquets Buyer’s Guide

If you keep the before points in mind, you can easily go out to the market and buy tennis racquets, right? No!

Control Racquets

Prince Textreme Warrior 100 Racquets. It is a highly impressive combo of Comfort, Control and feel. Stable and speedy design is optimal for advanced players.

Important Note: A sweet spot can be defined as the specific area on the racquet that acts as a platform for a great hit and return. Larger the racquet, bigger will be the sweet spot.

Power Racquets

Babolat Pure Drive. With precise maneuverability, power exertion and spin, the Pure Drive just can’t go wrong for amateurs as well as Tennis pros.

Technical Features

Wilson BLX Four 10Tennis racquet is deliberately engineered for beginners and intermediate players who seek maximum power and spin. Thanks to its Hammer Weighing system, the weight has been distributed such that it is heavier towards the head, relieving the handle from weight. Which is why, players get extreme control and depth with BLX Four.

Because of this head-heavy weight distribution, the BLX Four also provides some weight to the ball for precise power exertion and stable shots. All this is perfect for players who have low to medium pace in the game.

Fancy large sweet spot? The 10square inches of head size in BLX Four provides big sweet spot to deliver specific shots with utmost ease. During serves, the lightweight frame makes it very effortless to whip through. Double Holes Grommet technology (increased diameter of grommet holes) along with fan string pattern enables flexible movement of strings, further providing more control.

Features

Wilson US Open Junior Tennis Racquet is approved for players with the age of and under. Extremely lightweight in design and absolutely easy-going for Juniors, the Wilson US Open Junior racquet is offered in several sizes and comes included with a Tennis booklet elucidated for children.

Use it for Games or practice sessions, this racquet comes pre-strung so you can use it right out of the box. The frame is effortless to swing and is made from aluminum for better longevity. As you might guess, the racquet allows for excellent maneuverability across the court.

Head

Head Shape: Head shape of the racquet completely depends on your personal choice on how your racquet must look and also your skill level to some extent. Oval-shaped racquets bear their sweet spot at the bottom half of the body. Oval racquets gives amazing feel and is often preferred by traditional players.

Tear-drop Head shape allows for large sweet spot as the racquet is quite large, ideal for beginners.

Length Length of the racquet is measured from base of the handle to tip of the head. Racquets that range anywhere from 2to 2inches in length, all fall under the legal limit for tournament games. The most standard size of racquet is about 2inches long. Longer the racquet, greater will be the leverage during serves as well as its power. Long racquet also improves your reach towards groundstrokes.

You need to understand that, longer racquets are generally designed to be lighter than standard length of racquets. That’s because, if they are long as well as heavy, your performance will be very unwieldy.

Weight

Power and control are both equally affected by the weight of the racquet. To offer more power to the players, Manufacturers are evolving the design to shift the weight towards the head of the racquet.

Heavy (Head-Light) rackets weigh more than 11.ounces and offer excellent power and control. They are much more stable, powerful and cause less vibrations. However, they demand more energy from the players. HL racquets are preferred by advanced players.

Mid-weight (Balanced) rackets weigh between 9.to 11.ounces and offer just the right amount of control and power. Versatile group of racquets fall under this category, so most of the players can find their ideal racquets easily.

Ultra-light (Head-heavy) rackets weigh from to 9.ounces and provide amazing control over strokes. These are recommended for young players. Light racquets offer maneuverability, allow faster swings and require very less energy from the player. On the down side, such racquets might create more shock in the wrist, elbow or shoulder.

Prince Textreme Tour 100P Racquet is the Best Lightweight racquet today in terms of maneuverability and control.

There are two kinds of string patterns

Open string pattern and Closed string pattern. String pattern is responsible for overall performance and feel of the racquet. Open string pattern of a racquet will cause greater deflection when the ball hits, further creating greater ball rebound energy.

Open string pattern does not feel very tight as compared to dense string pattern, even when both of these are strung with same tension (for same racquet). Due to wide spacing in Open string pattern, the ball sits onto the strings for a little longer. This provides an amazing spin potential to the player. However, Open string pattern is prone to early breakage due to its flexibility.

Dense String pattern does not deflect too much when impacted with ball, thus creating less rebound. Such racquets also deliver less spin potential to the player but are endurable. Dense String pattern is recommended for hard-hitters or players who do not use much spin in their strokes, rather need enhanced control.

Grip size

Accurate grip size will enhance your control over the racquet and also boost your overall performance. Too small grip size will cause the racquet to twist, further leading to tennis elbow. Too large grip size will decrease the wrist snap during serve shots. Hence, it is very important for you to select accurate grip size. For adults, grip sizes can range from to 4.62inches.

To measure your precise grip size in inches, measure the distance from middle line on your palm to the tip of your middle finger.

TENNIS BAG

Everything that you’ll need on a Tennis Game session can be handily stored in a Tennis bag. From a Tennis racquet to water bottle, set of Tennis balls, T-shirt, shoes, etc. all can be carried in one bag. They are usually offered in various sizes and styles, going from Backpack-style or Shoulder-style.

TENNIS STRING

We’ve heard of several cases where Manufacturers generally provide low-quality of strings that break easily. It is always better to invest in superior quality of Tennis strings so as to avoid sudden breakage during games.

TENNIS STRINGING MACHINE a Tennis Stringing machine, you don’t have to pay frequent visits to the stores, every time your racquet’s strings are damaged. Such machines work as a long-term investment, saving cost as well as time of the players. Plus, you get to string your own racquet, as per your preference.

How To Select Your Grip Size

Comfort is a funny thing, and an area where science and feelings collide. The generally assumed knowledge is that softer frames are more comfortable and help with things like tennis elbow. The science is murky at best. When a racket strikes a tennis ball, it vibrates. The amplitude, frequency and damping rate are all affected by the stiffness. Stiffer rackets have a lower amplitude, but higher frequency and damping. That is to say the size of the vibrations are small, they happen more quickly but also stop more quickly. More flexible rackets have larger vibrations that happen at a lower rate but continue for longer.

String Pattern

For most players I would recommend a looser pattern. Spin has such a huge impact on the game the gains from getting more spin out of your stringbed outweighs the slight advantages of a marginally more consistent response from the stringbed. The exception would be if you are a player who hits very flat and hard and uses very little spin in their game generally the tighter stringbed might be a better choice.

Grip Size

Smaller grip = more spin potential/faster swing. A lot of professionals have dropped grip size for this reason. You are not professional and therefore should always go with what feels comfortable. For most adults that’s going to be between 1/to 1/Smaller hand = smaller grip size. It’s hard to go wrong with 3/8.

HEAD Liquidmetal Tennis Racquet, Strung, Inch Grip: Liquid metal technology for pure energy and perfect power. Ultimate power for players with a short compact swing. Total sweet spot construction for more stability and bigger sweet spot.

Head Ti.STennis Racquet

Head is known as one of the leaders in all racquet sports and they have certainly excelled in creating this racquet for beginners.

We picked up the racquet with a lot of hope that it will deliver more quality that the others that we have tested and it was perfectly on par with all of them.

The racquet excelled in terms of the length of the frame and this made it much easier for us to reach those difficult shots once we started to tire. The frame is made from durable materials and even though we had it slip a few times, it didn’t even break or sustain any damage.

Stringing

Improver tennis rackets – for players who are improvers and who are fairly new to the game or who may have returned to tennis after a long break.

Intermediate tennis rackets – aimed at club-standard tennis players who are no longer a beginner. The intermediate rackets contain a larger head size to provide a greater sweet spot. Their moderate weight makes them more comfortable to use.

Advance tennis rackets – if you’re reading this guide, it’s unlikely you’ll be looking for an advanced tennis racket as this would indicate you are a highly skilled and physically fit tennis player who has played tennis for a number of years and has the ability to generate a fast racket swing speed through the ball.

Ping Pong Paddle Power

With performance ratings, higher numbers represent a higher level of that feature, so a power rating of 9(as with the STIGA Pro Carbon paddle) indicates the most power possible.

You can see these scores in the tech specs of these in each of our product reviews above.

The last performance rating to consider is spin.

In general, if a paddle gives a high level of control, it also provides plenty of spin. While complete novices might struggle to lay down lots of spin, experienced players look for a paddle with lots of spin as these shots are more difficult for an opponent to return.

Official ping pong paddle dimensions

Stricter rules come in with the thickness of the blade, where at least 85% must be made from natural wood. Additional layers (within the blade) can be made from other materials including carbon fiber or glass fiber.

Also, it is important to look for paddles which are ITTF approved: only these rackets will guarantee that all official tournament requirements and guidelines are being met.

How to choose your ping pong paddle rubber

Most ping pong rubber is covered with tiny dimples, but the main variation between paddles is whether the dimples are pointing inwards or outwards.

Rubber which has the dimples pointing in is sometimes called reverse rubber. This is the most popular type of rubber as it provides a relatively smooth surface to try lots of different shots and techniques.

How to hold a ping pong paddle

Penhold and shakehand are the two most common ways to hold a ping pong paddle.

The penhold grip involves holding the handle between the thumb and forefinger with the blade facing downwards. The popularity of this technique is decreasing due to its weakness with backhand shots, where the wrist has to twist into an awkward position.

The color itself does not have any relevance. The difference is merely for visual purposes, so that an opponent can anticipate which type of shot is being played depending on which side of the paddle is being used. If the racket was the same color on both sides, it would be easy for a player to flip the paddle without their opponent noticing.

Try Some Demos

While you might be tempted to purchase a racket online before your child hits with it, visit a local retail store with a demo program, or ask a friend if you can borrow her child’s racket to let your child hit with it before you buy.

Pay Attention to the Grip

One of the biggest factors you’ll want to consider is grip size, making sure you purchase a racket that is easy for your child to hold. Remember, if you need to put grip tape on your child’s racket (e.g., during summer months when kids sweat more), this will increase the size of the racket. It might be best to choose a slightly smaller grip and then keep grip wrap on it year-round to provide a consistent size.

Strings Matter With Age

As your child gets older or better, strings become an important factor. Depending on the type of string you put in a racket and the string tension, a frame can play completely different. Talk to your child’s coach about whether or not your child can use a pre-strung racket or if it’s time to use a certain type of strings and a specific tension range, based on his or her style of play.
